Vista…

Well I finally got vista working on my 2nd comp. I was having issues with it locking up on me due to bad ram before. Now that its working I tried using it, and thats as far as I got. The support for vista still seems pretty lacking. There seems to be like a lot of steps just to get things working in vista. One good example is FFXI(Final Fantasy XI). I have a pretty old copy of the game the one that makes you install from 5 CDs(or was it 4) instead of just one DVD. But in order for FFXI to work you have to have a copy of the PlayOnline folder from a current install. Or you will be stuck with a copy of FFXI that wont even start up. So pretty much after you install FFXI you copy over your PlayOnline Viewer folder and then you are able to run the game without any problems. The vista start menu is pretty nice but at the same time it seems like it slows you down now, since if you have a big start list you have to scroll instead of having a start menu that took up half of the screen. There is now a user folder similar to OS X but its still not as nice, seems like a lets try to do something like that. I don't think vista has enough bang for the buck really. Ya it looks cool if you have a Aero capable computer and it loads faster then XP but unless you really need to have the newest thing I really don't see the point in upgrading. Unless you have a DX10 game and a DX10 video card then maybe it might be worth it. If it was me I think I would just go with the WinXP MCE instead of Vista. Although I really don't even use Media Center.
